As a 2001 graduate of the University of Southern Maine and a former teen parent, I benefited from the experience and commitment of full-time, tenured USM faculty.

In addition to providing excellent classroom instruction, many of my professors served as mentors and friends as I navigated the challenges of college instruction, parenting and part-time work-study employment.

Their dedication to my success as an undergraduate student provided the foundation I needed to go on to law school and to enjoy a successful legal career.

All Maine students should have the same opportunity to learn from such talented and devoted professors.

That’s why the University of Maine System should be investing the public’s money in the heart and soul of the state’s universities – the faculty – not on pricey attorneys, highly paid consultants or extravagantly paid administrators.
