The 2016 Down East Musher’s Bowl, held over the weekend at Five Fields Farm in South Bridgton, ran through sloped apple fields and S-curved cross country ski trails. The event was downgraded this year from a sanctioned race to a fun run because of less-than-ideal trail conditions for the technically challenging course. About 20 teams entered the two-day event, the farthest coming from Connecticut. Usually only the top three finishers in a sanctioned race are awarded, but this year all mushers received cash prizes. Despite weather setbacks, the club tries to offer the event every year in order to provide training experience.
