MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin will be among those testifying before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee on opiate and heroin addiction.

Today’s hearing also is to include a range of testimony from various federal agency officials, including the directors of the Office of National Drug Control Policy and the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy, a Democrat and senior member of the committee, says the discussion will focus on the epidemic of heroin and prescription drug abuse gripping the country.
