About 200 music fans were treated to a mini-concert by the rock band Wilco Wednesday afternoon at the Bull Moose music store in Scarborough.

The band was in the area to play a sold-out show at the State Theatre in Portland Wednesday night.

The afternoon show at the Bull Moose store was just the band’s way of “doing something nice for their fans,” said Chris Brown, chief financial officer of the Bull Moose stores. Brown said Wilco’s management asked that the event not be publicized and that the band members didn’t want to do interviews.

The show was announced on the band’s Twitter account Friday, Brown said. Fans were told they could buy a copy of the band’s recent “Star Wars” album and get a wristband to attend the Wednesday in-store show. Many of the people attending bought their copies Wednesday, Brown said.

Bull Moose often hosts in-store concerts by touring groups but had never had Wilco play in a store before, he said. Members of Wilco had signed albums once, at the Portland Bull Moose, a few years ago. Brown said the band played eight songs for the crowd packed in among the stacks of CDs and records, from about 1:30 to 2 p.m.
