FARMINGTON — A Mt. Blue High School student was expelled Tuesday for giving classmates brownies containing marijuana on school grounds.

Mt. Blue Regional School District Superintendent Tom Ward said Thursday that the student was expelled from Regional School Unit 9 for distributing the brownies in December.

The student gave at least two other students marijuana brownies on the Mt. Blue campus. Ward believes the brownies were exchanged when the students met in a hallway.

The incident was brought to the attention of the school administration by students who reported that the exchange had occurred, Ward said.

The decision to expel the student indefinitely was made Tuesday. Ward said that while the expulsion is termed indefinite, the school will work with the student and his or her parents to formulate a re-entry plan.

The plan consists of keeping up with coursework while being expelled and participating in community service. Ward said that after a period of time, he will meet with the student to discuss returning to school.

RSU 9 includes Chesterville, Farmington, Industry, New Sharon, New Vineyard, Temple, Vienna, Weld and Wilton.
