Sanford police charged a man Thursday with stealing money from laundry machines, after they got a tip from someone who recognized the suspect.

Police arrested Jeremiah Rivard, 20, of Sanford on a charge of felony burglary and took him to the York County Jail. Rivard’s bail was set at $500. He is expected to appear in Springvale District Court on Friday.

Officer Christopher Brown responded to a report of a burglary at the Pleasant Street Suds Laundromat at 53 Pleasant St. in Springvale about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday. He was told that a man had gotten into the laundry machines around 9 that morning and taken an undisclosed about of money, mostly in quarters.
