CASTINE — Maine Maritime Academy women’s basketball outscored Maine- Fort Kent 12-1 in the final three minutes to claim a 72- 60 non-conference victory on Tuesday night inside of Smith Gym.

The Mariners built a 14-0 lead with 4:30 remaining the first quarter, but the Bengals began to chip away at the deficit and took a 20-19 lead at 5:51 in the second quarter. The two teams exchanged the lead seven times in the second quarter before Maine-Fort Kent took a narrow 32-31 lead into the intermission.

Leading 61-59, the Mariners rolled to close the game to pick up the win.

Former Mt. Ararat High School standout Kristi Willey matched teammate Alayne Felix with 16 points. Willey added a team-high eight rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot.

MMA improved to 9-7 and visits Colby-Sawyer on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
