In response to Bill Smith’s Maine Voices column (“That was amore: When Portland was known for Italian sandwiches,” Jan. 25) asking for a real Italian in Portland, I want to say that we have been serving them for 24 years in the same location on Middle Street.
Our rolls are baked daily in Boston by Piantedosi’s Bakery and delivered to us in the early morning hours. They have been baking real Italian bread for over 65 years.
We offer five different Italians, including The Maine Italian, featuring ham and American cheese.
On Jan. 23, Peter W. of Columbia, Maryland, gave us a five-star review on Trip Advisor for “the only classic submarine sandwich I’ve been able to find north of Boston.”
So, Mr. Smith, look no further, for you have found us!
