A Gorham man who is accused of badly injuring his 4-month-old daughter appeared Monday in Cumberland County Unified Criminal Court.

Lee Keene, 27, was arrested by Gorham police at his home at 180 Main St. on Friday, charged with aggravated assault, assault on a child younger than 6 and endangering the welfare of a child.

Authorities said that on Jan. 25 and the next Wednesday, Keene assaulted his baby daughter. The injuries, while serious, are likely to heal, they said.

Keene entered no plea at Monday’s appearance. His bail was set at $100,000 in property and he is not to use or possess alcohol.

Keene’s lawyer for the appearance said he has mental health issues. The Department of Health and Human Services has been involved in safety planning for the child, the attorney said.
