A 25-year-old Naples man involved in a single car crash at the Naples Shopping Center last week has died.

Keegan C. Eldridge was driving a 2010 Volvo wagon west on Route 302 at 1:40 a.m. Jan. 25 when he crashed into a snowbank at the shopping center. The car went off the road and into a ditch, then went airborne after hitting an embankment before finally crashing into a large sign post, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Rescue workers transported Eldridge, who was not wearing a seatbelt, to Bridgton Hospital with a serious head injury. He was then flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center. He died over the weekend from his injuries, the sheriff’s office said.

Investigators said speed and the lack of a seatbelt were factors in the severity of the crash.
