BATH — Eleanor “Ellie” Swett Walter, age 95, died peacefully at Hill House in Bath, ME on February 6, 2016.

Born in Middlebury, VT on March 17, 1920, she was the youngest child of Phelps Nash Swett, Sr. and Eleanor MacAdam Swett. She attended Middlebury schools, then Duke University, where she met her future husband, Edward Henry Walter. They were married in February of 1943 and raised five daughters.

After all daughters were through with school, Ellie retired to Mount Vernon, in Bradenton, FL. There she was active on the Board of Directors, and enjoyed one of her greatest pleasures, playing tennis. Also an active swimmer and gardener, Ellie never let any moss grow under her feet. The happiest moments in her life surrounded her time at her family cottage at Lake Dunmore in Vermont. She was lucky to have spent all of her summers at the lake with generations of family always eager to visit.

She was predeceased by her husband; three brothers, Phelps Nash Swett, Jr., Malcolm M. Swett, Donald J. Swett; four sisters-in-law, Lydia, Florence, Paula and Jean.

Surviving her are her five daughters, Janet Tubiolo and husband Andrew of Rochester, NY, Phyllis Walter and wife Joy Tenney of San Diego, CA, Dorothy Triquet and husband James of Newton Junction, NH, Marjorie Parker and husband Richard of Bailey Island, ME, Heidi Nelson and wife Linda Martin of Durham, ME; 5 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Burial will be in June at the family plot in Middlebury, VT. Arrangements are in the care of Brackett Funeral Home, Brunswick, ME.
