Re: “St. Andre shutters program after state cuts” (Page A1, Feb. 8), subtitled: “The agency will close a group home for pregnant women and its adoption program.”

If only the protesters harassing women attempting to terminate early pregnancies at Planned Parenthood turned their caring and devotion to the lives of innocent breathing babies living outside the womb, places like St. Andre would be flourishing, providing more comfortable, safe living space for pregnant women and providing more adoption services.

In fact, if the protesters focused more of their attention on cherishing and protecting the lives of innocent babies living in Maine, there would be more services to help those babies and their mothers, including early medical intervention with unlimited visits by nurses to young families, along with aid to ensure these babies had every early advantage:

The stability of affordable homes.

 Healthy food.

Safe, low- or no-cost child care and transportation to get there.

Excellent education.

Affordable or subsidized creative and stimulating after-school programs.

If only those protesters standing outside Planned Parenthood, directing their rage at women seeking abortions and those who shepherd them to the clinic, could redirect their devotion toward advocacy that might actually improve the lives of the born and their mothers – this would be a better state and a better world.
