Shelby Rossignol has opened Rossignol’s Hair Shoppe in the former location of Pete’s Hair Shoppe at 57 Maine St. in Brunswick. Open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, Rossignol welcomes the entire family to get everyday wash and go styles.
A grand opening is scheduled for Friday, from 5:30-7 p.m., and the public is welcome to attend.
The shop offers comfortable chairs with a soothing and classic feel of barbershops of days gone by with modern methods and technology, and Maine-style hospitality and service.
Rossignol, who grew up in Topsham, graduated from Mt. Ararat High School and attended cosmetology school in 2010. She found that cosmetology focused too much on beauty and not enough on the everyday needs of the customers. She switched from cosmetology to barber school and completed her schooling with honors.
The shop is for families and the startup has been much of a family affair. Rossignol had her father’s help making her design become a reality. Finding mirrors, barber chairs, waiting room seating, flooring, cabinets and more, Rossignol and her father spent the last month scrambling to get everything together for opening day. Other family members and friends have been watching her young son and helping do odds and ends.
