SKOWHEGAN, (AP) — A former tax collector accused of stealing more than $400,000 from a Maine town is set to be tried in June.

Claudia Viles pleaded not guilty last year to charges of theft, tampering with public records, failure to make and file state income tax returns and failure to file or pay state income taxes.

Viles resigned in September after an Anson administrative assistant found a discrepancy between how much money she said she collected in 2014 and the amount she really collected.

The Morning Sentinel reports jury selection for the trial is scheduled for June 15. The trial is expected to begin June 20.

It was delayed after Vile’s lawyer requested to postpone the trial, saying the case, which involves thousands of documents, was not ready.
