SCARBOROUGH — James Edward Benedict, 67, of Scarborough, formerly of Belmont and Holliston, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on the afternoon of Jan. 31.

Benedict served one term as a town councilor from 2011-2014, was a volunteer with the Scarborough Police Department and a member of the Lions Club.

Jim is survived by his wife, Claire Benedict, of Scarborough; his daughters, Michelle Taupier, of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, Keri Cormier, of Scarborough, and Jennifer Benedict, of Scarborough; as well as his sister, Cynthia Campbell, of Nashua, New Hampshire, and all their families. 

A visitation was held Feb. 4 at the Jones, Rich and Hutchins Funeral Home, Portland. A funeral service was held Feb. 5 at the First Congregational Church, 161 Black Point Road in Scarborough. Interment will be at the Belmont Cemetery in Belmont, Massachusetts. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Assocation.
