OLD ORCHARD BEACH — A 42-year-old Old Orchard Beach man is free on $10,000 cash bail today following his arrest Monday on a charge he sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl on Sunday.

Kent Nguyen was charged with gross sexual assault. A condition of his bail is that he have no contact with anyone under age 16.

Deputy Police Chief Tim DeLuca said this morning that the girl was not physically injured in the alleged assault.

“She’s been victimized,” he said. “It is a horrific crime for an 11-year-old to be victimized in such a way.”

Police responded around 9 p.m. Sunday to a report that a sexual assault had taken place earlier that evening. Police located Nguyen, who was identified as the suspect, the following day. He was arrested and taken to the Old Orchard Beach Police Department.

DeLuca said Nguyen and the victim lived in proximity, and were familiar with one another.

He said the investigation is continuing and there could potentially be additional charges, “but we don’t know at this time.”

“We’re trying to gather as much information as we can,” he said.

Gross sexual assault is a Class A felony and carries a maximum prison term, upon conviction, of 30 years.
