Why does President Obama want to deny the sale of firearms to anyone on the no-fly list? This plan is fraught with problems.

The American Civil Liberties Union has sued the Department of Homeland Security because Muslim Americans were put on the no-fly list without being told why and allowed to dispute their status.

This could virtually deny the citizens due process. Whenever a citizen is denied due process, our Constitution becomes cracked and therefore weakened for all citizens.

What other rights might be denied to a citizen on the no-fly list? Speech? Religion? Donald Trump has caused our great nation to focus on that issue recently.

If President Obama can use the no-fly list to circumvent the Second Amendment and Mr. Trump becomes our next president, wouldn’t he be able to use the same precedent to deny citizenship to Muslims?

Because they already know they cannot pass the background checks, most criminals do not go to gun shows and dealers to purchase firearms. Hence, this policy will do virtually nothing to curb gun violence.

In President Obama’s recent television address, he said being listed on the no-fly list would not have prevented many, if any, of the gun deaths of the past year. So, could it be time to combat gun violence by merely enforcing the laws already on the books?
