A fast-moving fire leveled a two-story home at 96 Gordon Hill Road, diagonally across from the Thorndike Fire Department station, in the village area of town Sunday morning.

No one was hurt in the fire, said Thorndike Fire Capt. Henry Chaffee.

The fire broke out about 4 a.m. when the homeowners were alerted by a fire alarm and their dog.

Chaffee said about 40 firefighters on the scene were able to keep the fire from spreading to an adjacent house 10 feet away.

The fire started on the first floor. The cause, which is not suspicious, is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
