SANFORD — Katherine J. Huntley, 60, of Sanford, died Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, with her family by her side following a courageous battle with cancer.

Katherine was born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, on Jan. 31, 1956, to Gilbert and Thelma Pratt.

When she was young, her family moved to Sanford, where she attended local schools, graduating from Sanford High School.

Katherine loved gardening, flowers, butterflies and dragonflies. She also loved animals, and was particularly fond of her two dogs, Cowgirl and Daisy May Duke.

She had been a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary.

Katherine was a very hard-working woman who took pride in the fact she earned everything she had. She made it a point to instill these values in her children.

Her strength and courage were an inspiration to everyone who came into contact with her. She was a person who had that sparkle that attracted everybody and made everyone want to be around her.

She was a fighter who had great spirit and energy, and her smile was infectious.

She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, sister and friend, and will be dearly loved and missed by all forever.

She is survived by: her husband, Karl O. Huntley II of Sanford; three children, Lisa (Priss) McGrath of Pittsfield, Lorey (Pigit) Bagley of Sanford and William (Billy) McGrath of Sanford; four step-children, Tabitha Cheney, Karl O. Huntley III, Kayla Fleming and Steven Huntley, all of Sanford; five siblings, Jim, Raymond, Frank and Nancy Call and Keri Jean; 15 grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; and many friends and extended family members.

A committal service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery on Stanley Road in Springvale.

A celebration of life will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, at the AMVETS Post #3 on School Street in Sanford.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to everyone who helped and showed their love and support during Katherine’s period of declining health.
