I want to thank U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree for her work as a member of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus and particularly the new LGBT Aging Issues Task Force.

This task force will provide much-needed leadership on issues facing older lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender adults in our country and here in Maine.

Our organization, Services & Advocacy for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Elders (SAGE) Maine, looks forward to working with Pingree to address the challenges facing LGBT older adults.

Through our ongoing work in the state we have identified people who are facing unique challenges as they find themselves dealing with social and cultural isolation as they age in Maine. In some cases, a lifetime of discrimination has weakened the possibilities for a safe, healthy and secure retirement.

SAGE Maine is working to improve the quality of life for LGBT older adults through advocacy, education and social support, and we are pleased to have Chellie Pingree in our corner.
