Sea Dog Brewing Co. in South Portland will host its annual Incredible Breakfast Cook-off event on Friday, Feb. 26, from 7-9 a.m. to benefit the Preble Street Resource Center in Portland.

The breakfast is also a kickoff for the annual Maine Restaurant Week, which runs from March 1-12. Tickets for the breakfast are $20 per person and can be purchased online at www.mainerestaurantweek.com.

This is the seventh year in a row that Sea Dog has held the breakfast cook-off and this year there are 11 competitors, according to Jim Britt, co-founder of Maine Restaurant Week, including last year’s champion, Vignola Cinque Terre.

In addition, the cook-off will also feature two past champions, Jeff Landry, who used to own the Farmer’s Table, and Tim Labonte from Eve’s at the Garden at the Portland Harbor Hotel, among other local chefs of note.

Britt said those who attend the annual breakfast “are a mix of breakfast fans and supporters of the individual restaurants. All are Maine Restaurant Week customers who love (to take part in) these community events.”

The Incredible Breakfast Cook-off has raised around $25,000 for Preble Street since it started in 2009 and the event always sells out, Britt said.

The goal of the cook-off is for the attendees to “have fun meeting many of the area’s chefs. We also hope they will discover a new favorite and visit all of the participating restaurants in the future,” he added.

Overall, Britt said, “Maine Restaurant Week is a celebration of Maine’s incredible restaurant community.”

Details about the restaurants participating, along with a listing of other special events being planned, can be found on the restaurant week website.
