A recent editorial by the Portland Press Herald (“Our View: State’s full employment statistics are nothing to celebrate,” Feb. 23) pointed out that Maine reached full employment at the end of 2015 and that the state needs to do everything possible to bring more people into the workforce, including people “from away.”

As the owner of a recruiting staffing firm in Maine for over 20 years, I hear from employers all the time about this issue and could not agree more. That’s why we launched Live and Work in Maine, an initiative designed to enable people looking to start, keep or bring their career to Maine.

High-demand talent has the option of living and working where they want. When looking at career options, the great quality of life we have to offer in Maine puts us at a competitive advantage.

In addition to profiles of employers across the state and information on Maine’s eight regions, our website, liveandworkinmaine.com, tells the stories of many professionals from diverse industries who have relocated to Maine. These are talented individuals who could go anywhere, and are choosing Maine because of the great opportunities they see to advance their careers and raise their families.

Maine is more than a place to vacation. With so many world-class, industry-leading companies right here in our backyard, we need to let the world know that Maine is an ideal place for those who want to work hard and play hard.

Let’s make Vacationland work for more people – after all, a rising tide lifts all boats.
