The University of Maine women’s basketball team is the No. 2 seed in the America East tournament and will face No. 7 New Hampshire in the quarterfinals.

Maine and Albany both finished with a 15-1 record in the conference, split their head-to-head matchups and had the same records against each conference opponent. Albany was awarded the top seed because it has a higher RPI ranking.

The tournament quarterfinals and semifinals will take place at Binghamton University. The championship game will be played at the highest remaining seed on Friday, March 11.

Maine faces New Hampshire at noon Saturday.

(3) SOUTH CAROLINA 75, LSU 39: Tiffany Mitchell scored a season-high 24 points as the Gamecocks (28-1, 16-0 SEC) wrapped up the SEC title, beating the Tigers (9-20, 3-13) in Columbia, South Carolina.

(6) Maryland 110, MINNESOTA 77: The Terrapins (27-3, 16-2 Big Ten) won the Big Ten regular-season title with a win over the Gophers (19-10, 11-7) in College Park, Maryland.

Men’s basketball

Maine is the No. 6 seed in the America East men’s tournament and will face No. 3 Vermont at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in a quarterfinal game.

SETON HALL 80, (5) Xavier 81: Desi Rodriguez had career-highs of 27 points and 12 rebounds and the Pirates (21-7, 11-5 Big East) stunned the Musketeers (25-4, 13-4) in Newark, New Jersey.

(6) MICHIGAN STATE 88, PENN STATE 57: Denzel Valentine had 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists as the Spartans (24-5, 11-5 Big Ten) beat the Nittany Lions (15-14, 6-1) in East Lansing, Michigan.

OHIO STATE 68, (8) IOWA 64: Marc Loving scored 25 points as the Buckeyes (19-11, 11-6 Big Ten) rallied from a late deficit to win in Columbus, Ohio.

PITTSBURGH 76, (15) DUKE 62: Jamel Artis scored 17 points as the Panthers (20-8, 9-7 ACC) beat the Blue Devils (22-8, 10-6) in Pittsburgh.

MEN’S LACROSSE

WHEATON 7, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 6: Matt Morgan scored with 1:29 remaining to lift the Lyons (1-0) over the Nor’easters (0-1) in Biddeford.

Will Morrison led the Lyons with three goals.

Sam Cloutier notched a pair of goals for UNE.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 10, ST. JOSEPH’S 9: Brooke Kelleher scored with 2:11 left in overtime to lift the Nor’easters (1-0) over St. Joseph’s (0-1) in Biddeford.

Kelleher’s goal spoiled a St. Joseph’s rally during which the Monks scored five times in the final 9:29 of regulation, tying the match at 9-all on Elizabeth Elcock’s goal with 1:54 to play.

Jocelyn Davee and Kelleher each finished with two goals and three assists for UNE.

Elyse Caiazzo led the Monks with three goals.

BASEBALL

MAINE 13, NEW MEXICO STATE 3: The Black Bears (3-4) took the lead in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Jake Osbourne and a sacrifice fly by Colin Ridley, then pulled away to beat the Aggies (5-2) in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Kevin Stypulkowski had three hits, two RBI and scored twice for Maine, which split the four-game weekend series. Jeremy Pena added three hits, two runs and an RBI, while Tyler Schwanz had three hits and two RBI and scored a run.
