Scarborough police are using humor to persuade drivers, who either forget or simply refuse to use their signals when they are turning.

“Introducing turn signals,” appears above two Facebook photographs of a turn signal arm on a steering wheel and the light on a vehicle’s front end. “Push here and they blink here.”

The tongue-in-cheek post, which appeared on the police department’s Facebook page Friday, goes on to say that “turn signals are now standard equipment on all cars, trucks and minivans. For more information consult your owner’s manual. Amaze your friends.”

The message was liked by more 400 people and evoked a number of comments, including one woman who wrote: “Use them people. We are not mind readers.”

Another commenter said, “Not available on Massachusetts models.”
