OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Michael Wade McCallum, 74, of Old Orchard Beach, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2016, at Sealrock Healthcare in Saco.

He was born in Roxbury, Massachu_ setts, on Sept. 22, 1941, a son of David and Jeannette (Gonneville) McCallum.

Michael graduated from Old Orchard Beach High School, Class of 1960. He attended USM before receiving a four-year apprenticeship at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, later becoming an instructor. Michael accomplished this while building Old Orchard Beach Tent and Trailer for his parents, David (who was paraplegic) and Jeannette McCallum.

He also owned and operated McCallum’s Excavating for many years. He went to work for St. Hilaire Brothers in excavation and then waste disposal. He ran the transfer station in Old Orchard Beach for many years for the St. Hilaires and the Town of Old Orchard Beach, retiring in 2007.

Mike and his wife, Connie, followed their dreams and traveled West. After arriving at the edge of the Grand Canyon, Mike got out of the truck, took a look, and said, “Let’s go home, Con.” Mike rarely left Old Orchard Beach – going to Saco was a big event.

His hobbies included hunting and fishing, especially with his friends and family.
