BIDDEFORD — Simonne B. Cantara, 93, of Biddeford, died Friday, March 4, 2016, at Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford.

She was born April 19, 1922, in Biddeford, the daughter of Adjutor and Josephine (Pilote) Vaillancourt. She was educated in local schools.

As a young woman, she worked at the Bates Mills. For many years, she was employed at Percy’s Drug Store on Main Street in Saco, where she worked behind the lunch counter.

Simonne enjoyed playing cards, watching wrestling and socializing. An avid knitter and crocheter, she would make hats and mittens to donate to church fairs.

She was preceded in death by: her husband of 47 years, Charles E. Cantara, on June 1, 1995; her son, Donald A. Cantara, on May 2, 2015; and her brother, Roland Vaillancourt, in 2002.

She is survived by: her daughter-in-law, Diane L. Cantara of Biddeford; two granddaughters, Jennifer Cantara and her partner Robert Berwick of Saco, and Hillary Cantara of Biddeford; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, March 11, at the St. Anne Chapel of St. Joseph’s Church in Biddeford. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Biddeford.
