BRUNSWICK
Pejepscot Historical Society is inviting the general public to the program portion of its 2016 Annual Meeting, to be held March 31, at Frontier Café in Brunswick, inside Fort Andros, 14 Maine St. The event takes place in Frontier’s theater venue.
The featured speaker is Brook Ewing Minner, executive director of Northeast Historic Film in Bucksport, a nonprofit archives dedicated to collecting, preserving, and sharing northern New England’s moving image heritage. Minner’s presentation about preserving local history will include old film clips from the region and elsewhere in Maine.
Since becoming director of NHF in early 2015, Minner has helped lead revitalization efforts in Bucksport, hit hard by a mill closing.
“She’s incredibly community oriented,” said PHS Executive Director Larissa Vigue Picard, who has known Minner for several years. “Her commitment to community, enthusiasm, and creativity are being put to good use at NHF, and her work there is inspiring for organizations like ours. Between Brook’s engaging style and the old film clips she’s going to share, her presentation should be a real treat.”
After a 5-5:30 p.m. business meeting, open only to PHS members, the general public is invited to arrive at 5:30 p.m. for a half-hour reception, followed by the formal program beginning at 6PM. Minner delivers her talk following remarks by Vigue Picard.
Advance tickets are required and are $10 for PHS members and $15 for guests. Tickets can be purchased online at www.eventbrite.com/phsannualmeeting or by calling the PHS office at (207) 729-6606.
Memberships can be purchased prior to buying tickets in order to receive the member discount. The society has recently updated its membership levels and increased benefits in all categories. Benefits at the basic level include free admission to its house museums, free research, discounts in its museum shops, and more. Higher membership levels include all standard benefits plus an allotment of digital files of historic images, admission passes for friends and family to PHS house museums, private tours of the collections, and more.
