Portland will review a partial pesticide ban that South Portland could be close to adopting.
South Portland is considering an ordinance that would prohibit the use of some pesticides on city and private property. Officials in Portland decided to send the ordinance to a committee for review on Monday.

Portland city spokeswoman Jessica Grondin says the city’s Energy & Sustainability Committee will review South Portland’s ordinance. The committee next meets on March 15.
South Portland’s proposed pesticide restrictions do not specifically name pesticides that would be allowed or banned. It also wouldn’t apply to the sale of pesticides or their use to kill disease-carrying insects or in commercial agriculture or on golf courses.
More than two dozen Maine communities have pesticide-control ordinances.
