KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Perry Ellis scored 21 points, Frank Mason III added 16 and top-ranked Kansas ran roughshod over weary Kansas State, 85-63, on Thursday in the quarterfinals in the Big 12 Tournament.

The Jayhawks (28-4), who won their 12th consecutive regular-season crown, led 45-30 at halftime before pushing their advantage past 20 for much of the second half. They coasted the rest of their way to a semifinal matchup Friday night with No. 22 Baylor, which handled No. 23 Texas earlier in the day.

Carlton Bragg added a career-high 12 points for Kansas.

The eighth-seeded Wildcats (17-16) were led by Justin Edwards, who hit five 3s and had 23 points.

(3) VILLANOVA 81, GEORGETOWN 67: Josh Hart scored 25 points, Ryan Arcidiacono added 19 points and six assists, and Villanova pulled away from Georgetown in the second half at New York to open its bid for consecutive Big East Tournament titles.

Kris Jenkins added 15 points for the top-seeded Wildcats (28-4), who meet meet Providence in Friday’s semifinals.

(4) VIRGINIA 72, GEORGIA TECH 52: With its typical stingy defense, plus 26 points from conference player of the year Malcolm Brogdon, Virginia moved into the ACC Tournament semifinals by beating Georgia Tech in Washington.

(5) XAVIER 90, MARQUETTE 72: Trevon Bluiett matched his career high with 24 points and Xavier dominated from start to finish in a victory over Marquette in the quarterfinals of the Big East Tournament in New York.

Xavier (27-4) advanced to Friday’s semifinals to face the winner of third-seeded Seton Hall and sixth-seeded Creighton.

(7) NORTH CAROLINA 88, PITTSBURGH 71: North Carolina got off to a fast start at the ACC Tournament in Washington as the regular-season champion routed Pittsburgh to take the first step toward its first conference title since 2008.

Four players scored in double figures as the Tar Heels (26-6) shot 58.9 percent from the floor.

Jamel Artis and Michael Young each scored 19 points for the Panthers, who still should be NCAA Tournament-bound despite the loss.

(8) OREGON 83, WASHINGTON 77: Chris Boucher had 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Oregon withstood a late flurry to hold off Washington in the Pac-12 Tournament quarterfinals at Las Vegas.

Top-seeded Oregon (26-6) built an 11-point lead midway through the second half, but Andrew Andrews brought the Huskies back with a quick scoring flurry.

The Ducks held, though, hitting four free throws in the final 33 seconds to earn a spot in Friday night’s semifinals against No. 15 Arizona.

(9) WEST VIRGINIA 86, TCU 66: Devin Williams had 18 points and 11 rebounds and the Mountaineers never trailed in a victory over TCU in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City.

The plucky Horned Frogs trailed just 63-55 midway through the second half before a spree of 3-pointers allowed the second-seeded Mountaineers (25-7) to seize control.

(12) UTAH 80, SOUTHERN CAL 72: Kyle Kuzma broke out of a scoring slump at just the right time, missing one shot while scoring 23 points to help lift Utah over Southern California in the Pac-12 quarterfinals.

The second-seeded Utes (25-7) started hitting shots from the opening tip, shooting 61 percent to earn a spot in Friday’s semifinals against No. 24 California or Oregon State.

(15) ARIZONA 82, COLORADO 78: Allonzo Trier scored 23 points, Ryan Anderson had 17 points and 11 rebounds, and No. 15 Arizona held on to beat Colorado 82-78 in the Pac-12 tournament quarterfinals in Las Vegas.

Arizona (25-7) overwhelmed Colorado in the first half before laboring through most of the second.

The third-seeded Wildcats allowed the Buffaloes to cut a 22-point lead to two on George King’s 3-pointer with 3 seconds left.

NOTRE DAME 84, (19) DUKE 79: Looking exhausted down the stretch, Duke gave away a 16-point, second-half lead against Notre Dame and lost in overtime in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals in Washington.

V.J. Beachem scored 19 points for fourth-seeded Notre Dame (21-10).

ILLINOIS 68, (20) IOWA 66: Jalen Coleman-Lands scored 17 points and Malcolm Hill broke a tie with a 16-foot jumper with 1:14 to go, helping Illinois fend off Iowa’s frantic comeback for a stunning upset in the Big Ten Tournament at Indianapolis.

Illinois faces No. 13 Purdue in Friday’s quarterfinals.

(22) BAYLOR 75, (23) TEXAS 61: Taurean Prince had 24 points and 13 rebounds, Rico Gathers added 13 points and Baylor’s baffling zone defense shut down Texas in a victory in the Big 12 Tournament quarterfinals at Kansas City.

The fifth-seeded Bears (22-10) opened a 15-point lead in the first half.
