Returning for the 5th year on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17 from 7-8:30 p.m., area musicians return for a free Irish music performance at the Harlow Gallery at 160 Water St. in Hallowell. This all-ages concert is free and open to the public.

Local musicians Adam Soosman, William Fahy, Karen Mosher, Bryce Bragdon and others will perform traditional Irish music on Irish tin whistle, flute, bass flute, recorder, mandolin and fiddle to celebrate the holiday and the audience will be welcome to sing along to some old favorites. The performance will also include select pieces from other European and American cultures and traditions. This is the fifth year of Irish music at the Harlow Gallery on St. Patrick’s Day and has become an eagerly anticipated event for musicians and audience alike. Drop-in guest musicians likely.

Adam Soosman has been performing since 1976, and in Maine since 1989. He has been teaching music in Maine since 1996. He is an instructor for the Musician’s 1st Choice School of Music & Performance in Augusta, specializing in Woodwind & Brass instruments and Voice. Soosman can be heard on the Sam Shain and the Scolded Dogs album playing various saxophones — the album was recorded in Hallowell, at Bob Caldwell’s studio. Soosman plays regularly with the popular function band, Jones’n, which is celebrating its 13th anniversary this year. He also performs with the dynamic duo “A n’ D,” and the coastal Jazz ensemble “Best In Show.”

William Fahy is a junior at Hall-Dale High School. He has been studying Irish tin whistle, flute and saxophone with Adam Soosman at Musician’s First Choice School of Music for more than four years. He participates in the Hall-Dale High School concert band, jazz band, jazz choir and Taiko drumming group. William will be playing first flute in orchestra for the All State Music Festival taking place at the University of Maine Orono in May.
