To follow up on Nancy L. Allen’s Feb. 25 letter, “Writer’s warning of image substitution fits Trump,” drawing from children’s author Madeleine L’Engle, I’ve been musing about Dr. Seuss’ “Yertle the Turtle.”

As mentioned in the Wikipedia article on the book’s publication history, Seuss portrayed Yertle as a despotic, autocratic ruler: “I’m Yertle the Turtle! Oh, marvelous me! For I am the ruler of all that I see!”

Seuss said, “Kids can see a moral coming a mile off.” Can we see a Donald J. Trump presidency coming a mile off? What do we have to go on? Campaign performance? Background information?

Yertle the Turtle ends when Mack, a plain little turtle, decides he’s had enough. If enough plain little Macks decide they’ve had enough …

“Yertle the Turtle” is worth revisiting.
