A fire that destroyed a Westbrook home early Saturday was set intentionally, according to investigators.

The house fire, at 137 Brackett St., was reported just before 2 a.m., according to a Westbrook Police Department news release. The home’s two adult occupants made it out safely with their pet cat, but the house itself was burned beyond repair, according to the news release.

Westbrook police and the State Fire Marshal’s Office are jointly investigating the fire and have determined that the cause was arson, the release said. The investigation continued Saturday, and no information about possible suspects was available Saturday night.

Police asked that anyone with information about the case call Detective Ryan Close at 854-0644, Ext. 2421. Anonymous tips can also be left at 591-8117.
