A South Portland-based program that serves hundreds of developmentally delayed children, teens and young adults has set a new fundraising record, raising more than $85,937 at its annual all-night dance marathon known as STRIVE Rocks.

STRIVE Associate Director Peter Brown said in an email that more than 1,000 people took part in the weekend event. The all-night dance marathon was held at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland – formerly known as the Cumberland County Civic Center. Brown said the 2016 dance marathon broke the previous fundraising record of $76,000 set in 2015.

STRIVE is a nonprofit organization serving more than 850 teens and young adults with intellectual and emotional disabilities. Located on Foden Road in South Portland, the organization offers educational, social and vocational opportunities in the Portland area.
