WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Bowdoin had three RBI singles in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally to a 4-3 win in the late game as the Polar Bears completed a doubleheader sweep over Dickinson on Thursday to remain undefeated in baseball.

Sawyer Billings, Luke Cappell and Colby Joncas each drove in a run in the rally, and Jacob Stein pitched the seventh to seal it for Bowdoin (4-0).

Peter Cimini homered in the fourth for the Polar Bears.

Bowdoin beat the Red Devils (10-5) by a 10-5 score in the opener. Chad Martin went 2 for 3 with three RBI, and Sean Mullaney had two hits and two runs scored.

Martin and Jack Wilhoite each hit a two-run single in the third to give Bowdoin a 4-1 lead, and the Polar Bears put it away with four more runs in the sixth, stretching the lead to 10-3.

Brandon Lopez got the win, allowing two earned runs on four hits in six innings. He struck out six and walked two.

SOFTBALL

UNE 11, FRAMINGHAM STATE 1: Kelly Murphy blasted a grand slam in the second inning, Abby Lambert added a three-run shot in the fourth, and the University of New England rolled to a victory over Framingham State (2-6) in a five-inning game to start its day at Clermont, Florida.

UNE 6, UW-STEVENS POINT 0: Sophia Burnham and Melissa Sprague combined to throw a no-hitter as the Nor’easters (7-3) shut out Wisconsin-Stevens Point (2-5) in their second game of the day to finish their Florida trip on a four-game winning streak.

KEENE STATE 4, BOWDOIN 2: Julia Geaumont went 2 for 3 with two doubles and a run scored for the Polar Bears in their loss to the Owls (4-7) to start the day at Winter Gardens, Florida.

BOWDOIN 11, WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 5: Jordan Gowdy went 3 for 5 with four RBI to lead the Polar Bears (3-1) past Western New England (3-7) in their second game of the day.

Bowdoin scored three runs in the second, then added four in the third – fueled by a two-run single from Gowdy – to take a 7-2 lead.

STOCKTON 7, BATES 3: Stockton (5-2) scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull away from a 3-3 tie and beat the Bobcats in their first game of the day at Clermont, Florida.

Karen Lockhart went 2 for 3 with two RBI for Bates. She opened the scoring with a solo home run in the top of the first, then hit a run-scoring single during the Bobcats’ two-run sixth.

Andrea Russo also had an RBI single in the inning.

BABSON 9, BATES 1: Paige Ahlholm homered for the Bobcats’ only run as Bates (0-4) fell to Babson (5-5) in five innings in its second game of the day.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

BOWDOIN 20, VASSAR 10: Emma Beecher scored three of her five goals in the first seven minutes, setting the Polar Bears (2-3) on the path to an easy victory over Vassar (2-1) at Bradenton, Florida.

Annie Glenn added three goals and Mettler Growney had two goals and two assists for Bowdoin, which led 6-1 less than 11 minutes into the game.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS: Sara Daher, a junior at Bates, finished eighth in the 400-yard individual medley at the Division III Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina to earn her 13th career All-American honor.

Daher’s time of 4 minutes, 28.36 seconds was 7.59 seconds behind winner Megan Pierce of Williams.

FOOTBALL

THE UNIVERSITY of New England and Husson University announced that the schools will meet for a series of six games beginning with two sub-varsity games in September 2017.

The schools will then play four varsity games beginning in 2018 – UNE’s first varsity season – with the Nor’easters hosting in 2018 and 2020, and Husson at home in 2019 and 2021.
