FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — The Bates College women’s tennis team fell 8-1 to No. 21 nationally ranked Case Western Reserve University on Friday to start play in the Blue-Grey Invitational at the University of Mary Washington.

Junior Olivia Voccola supplied the lone point for the Bobcats (3-4), defeating Kennedy Mulholland 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.

The Spartans (6-2) swept doubles play, including 8-1 and 8-0 scores at second and third doubles.

Former Brunswick standout Maisie Silverman put up a good fight at No. 1 singles for Bates, falling 6-4,7-5 to Nithya Kanagasegar in the tightest matchup of the day.
