My family gathered for dinner on the evening of March 16 as we always do. No one had been harmed. No one had died. We weren’t grieving. The Cape Elizabeth community isn’t grieving. School officials and police did their job. People I don’t even know protected my children. You can’t put a price on that and you can’t adequately thank those who stood in for you as protectors of innocents. Cape got lucky, it’s true, but we have very fine individuals at our backs. Thank you to the School and Police department members that took care of business. On my birthday I get to celebrate the greatest gift that you can have: children. Eternally grateful to Cape Elizabeth.
