The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office announced two arrests late Friday in the robbery of the Rite Aid pharmacy on Route 202 in Gray on Thursday afternoon.

Shawn M. Small, 19, of New Gloucester and Sarah L. Leighton, 34, of Gray were arrested at an apartment on Court Street in Auburn about 2 p.m. Friday, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. Both were charged with robbery and taken to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland, where they were held on $25,000 cash bail.

The sheriff’s office said Leighton drove Small to and from the pharmacy to commit the robbery.

The sheriff’s office said Thursday that a white man with blond hair and a thin build entered the pharmacy around 3:15 p.m., confronted an employee and produced a note demanding narcotics.

Police said he told the employee that he had a gun, but no weapon was displayed. The man ran from the store with an undetermined amount of prescription narcotics.

The sheriff’s office said Friday that the case remains under investigation and that other people may be charged.
