Portland police say a 40-year-old woman died Monday in the parking lot outside the Subway restaurant on Brighton Avenue, but her death is not considered suspicious.
Lt. Gary Hutcheson said the woman was driving a relative to work then they stopped at the Subway at 952 Brighton Ave. She waited in the car while her passenger went inside the sandwich shop to place an order.
When the person returned to the car, the woman was dead. Hutcheson said Portland police sent a team of Criminal Investigation Division detectives to investigate the death because of the woman’s relatively young age.
“Her death appears to be from natural causes,” Hutcheson said. “Nothing appears to be suspicious.”
The death was reported to police around 3:20 p.m. Hutcheson said police know who the woman is, but her identity can be released only by the Criminal Investigation Division, most likely on Tuesday.
Hutcheson said the police department may do toxicology tests and have the body examined to determine the cause of death.
As of 4:10 p.m., the Subway had reopened.
