FALMOUTH — Pauline “Polly” Foster, 86, died March 22, at home surrounded by her family.

She was a daughter of the late Lucien and Alice (Gauvin) Lavoie. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1947, St. Mary’s School of Nursing in 1950, and was employed at St. Mary’s Hospital until she married Rolland Foster in 1951. The couple settled in Bangor, where she began working at the Eastern Maine General Hospital. Foster temporarily left nursing to raise her family of seven children. The family moved to Falmouth in 1967; Foster went to work at Devonshire Manor for 10 years.

Foster was a talented seamstress who enjoyed many types of handiwork. She was especially proud of her French heritage, and enjoyed family gatherings and celebrations.

She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Rolland Foster, and her  grandson, Oliver Foster Boothby.

She is survived by four daughters, Elaine Boothby, of Portland, Jane Kressbach, of Brunswick, Ann Edwards and Carol Foster, both of Falmouth; three sons, Gary Foster, of Yarmouth, James Foster, of Saco, and Thomas Foster, of California; a sister, Jeanne O’Connell, of Colorado; a niece, Susan Raatikanen, of Falmouth; a nephew, John O’Connell, of Colorado; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held March 28 at St. Pius X Church in Portland. Burial will be later this spring at Blanchard Cemetery in Falmouth.
