BRUNSWICK

The Bowdoin International Music Festival has announced the line up for their 2016 season, titled “Re-Invention.”

According to festival organizers the idea of re-invention is a large part of composition, performance, and teaching — everything the Bowdoin

International Music Festival is all about. It also characterizes the process of growth and the goal of keeping the festival relevant and dynamic.

The Monday Showcase series features string quartet based programs played by world-class resident and guest ensembles including the Ariel, JACK, Jupiter, Shanghai and Ying Quartets joined by faculty in special guest appearances.

Wednesday Upbeat! concerts fill the Studzinski Recital Hall at Bowdoin College. Tangos from Argentina are heard alongside stalwarts of the Baroque period and sonatas of the Romantic era are coupled with 20th century masterpieces.

Festival Fridays showcase some of the festival’s most popular offerings, from intimate duos to large-scale orchestras. Selections include Beethoven’s majestic Violin Concerto played by 2016 Grammy award winner Augustin Hadelich, Debussy’s “Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune,” Tchaikovsky’s first Piano Concerto played by Van Cliburn Gold Medalist Jon Nakamatsu and more. These series are often fully subscribed with limited tickets available.
