Merrymeeting Behavioral Health Services in Brunswick has closed its doors a week earlier than expected, according to WCSH-TV 6.

Employees of the home health services agency told the Portland station that, despite receiving a previous letter from the agency telling them that April 8 would be their last day, they were told by phone late Friday not only that the agency was closing early, but that they wouldn’t be paid for their anticipated final week of work.

Merrymeeting announced Monday that it would close this month because of a decision by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services to restrict services for mental health patients needing community support. About 180 people worked for the agency.

WCSH said Saturday that it was unable to reach Merrymeeting owner Jim Talbot or any officials from the agency for comment.
