WATERVILLE — Sam Dexter hit a three-run triple in the top of the 11th inning to lift the University of Southern Maine (15-5) to a 10-7 win over Colby (5-14) in a non-conference baseball game on Wednesday evening.

Paul McDonough had three hits and drove in three runs for the Huskies, who rallied to tie the game with two runs in the ninth inning. Kip Richard hit an RBI single and Tom Budrewicz added a sacrifice fly during the rally.

Jake Dexter finished the game with two scoreless innings of relief for the win.

Colby was led by Matt Michell, who had two hits, scored two runs and drove in one.

Andrew Currier and Tommy Forese added two hits, one run scored and one RBI apiece for the Mules.

MAINE 8, THOMAS 4: Tyler Schwanz singled and scored the go-ahead run on an error in the eighth as the Black Bears (8-22) used a four-run rally to break a 4-4 tie in a win over the Terriers (10-11) at Orono.

Brett Chappell had two hits, two RBI and scored one run for the Black Bears and Colin Ridley and Brenden Geary added two hits, two runs scored and one RBI apiece.

ST. JOSEPH’S 6, ENDICOTT 2: Joey Murphy had three hits – including two doubles – and drove in three runs, Jameson Collins added two hits and two runs scored, and the Monks (12-8) beat the Gulls (13-8) at Beverly, Massachusetts.

Taylor Black also scored two runs for the Monks, and Taylor Reuillard, Nic Lops, Max McCoomb and Noah McDaniel drove in one run apiece.

SOFTBALL

BOWDOIN-USM DOUBLEHEADER: Claire McCarthy hit an RBI double and scored on a two-run single by Samantha Valdivia during a three-run, two-out rally in the bottom of the seventh inning that lifted the Polar Bears (13-9-2) to a 5-4 win over Southern Maine (14-7-1) in Game 1 at Brunswick.

McCarthy and Julia Geaumont had two hits apiece for the Polar Bears and Brooke Cross collected two hits for the Huskies.

Game 2 ended in a 5-5 tie after five innings because of darkness. The Huskies broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the top of the fifth inning, but Bowdoin responded with three in the bottom of the fifth.

ST. JOSEPH’S, SIMMONS SPLIT: Kylie McFadden struck out seven and walked two in a three-hitter for the Monks (11-11, 6-4 GNAC) as they earned a split with a 2-1 win over the Sharks (7-10, 1-5) in Game 2 of a doubleheader at Dorchester, Massachusetts.

Mariah Harrison and Melissa Mayhew had two hits apiece for the Monks, and Jennifer Murphy and Kristal Smith each had an RBI.

Simmons won the opener 7-1.

SALVE REGINA SWEEPS UNE: Lindsey Florent hit a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth inning to send the Seahawks (9-11, 7-3 Commonwealth Coast Conference) to a 2-1 win over the University of New England (15-7, 6-4) in Game 2 of a doubleheader at Middletown, Rhode Island.

Meghan Bolano singled and doubled for the Nor’easters, and scored their run on an error in third inning. Katelyn Austin pitched a four-hitter for UNE.

Salve Regina won the opener 2-0 behind a three-hitter from Kelsey Boarman. UNE’s Abby Lambert also threw a three-hitter.

MEN’S LACROSSE

LASELL 11, ST. JOSEPH’S 8: Josh Gallant scored three of his game-high four goals in the second half as the Lasers (8-3, 3-1 GNAC) pulled away from the Monks (5-7, 2-2) at Auburndale, Massachusetts.

Michael Finn, Cam Boucher and Luigi Grimaldi scored two goals apiece for the Monks.
