AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Five airports in Maine will split $1.7 million in federal grant money earmarked for the improvement of operations at each.

The Kennebec Journal reports Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King announced Wednesday that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded the money through the Federal Aviation Administration.

Bangor International Airport will receive $900,000 to fund terminal modifications to meet current standards.

Sugarloaf Regional Airport in Kingfield will receive about $298,000 to construct a single-pump self-service fuel station.

Auburn/Lewiston Municipal Airport will also receive about $298,000 to fund terminal reconstruction and expansion work.

Machias Valley Airport will receive $150,000 to fund the replacement of the airport’s rotating beacon and wind cone.

Jackman’s Newton Field will receive nearly $92,000 to fund an aeronautical survey that will evaluate the installation of an area navigation approach.
