The board of directors of Maine Behavioral Healthcare has tapped Stephen Merz, a health care executive from Connecticut, to be the organization’s next chief executive officer.
Merz, who most recently has led the behavioral health service line of Yale New Haven Hospital, will replace Dennis King, who retires in June.
Merz spent nearly his entire career with Yale New Haven Hospital, one of New England’s largest hospitals with more than 1,500 beds and 13,500 employees.
In his new role, Merz will lead an organization that was formed in 2014 when Spring Harbor Hospital merged with three community mental health care providers, Community Counseling Center, Counseling Services Inc. and Mid-Coast Mental Health Center.

AWARDS and RECOGNITIONS

He will see clients for fitness rehab out of Back Cove Personal Fitness in Portland. Clients needing clinical athletic training services will be seen at Beyond Strength in Falmouth. He previously worked as a clinical athletic trainer at OA Centers for Orthopaedics in the physical therapy department for over 15 years prior to starting his own practice.

Linda Riddell, population health scientist/principal, Health Economy LLC, has joined the editorial board of the peer-reviewed journal, Population Health Management.
The journal, published by the Thomas Jefferson University School of Public Health of Philadelphia, appears six times annually.
