Coach’s Outlook: After improving a lot last year with a young core group of runners, the girls team is looking to continue becoming more competitive in regular season and postseason competitions. The continued maturity of the now core group of upperclassmen is key to this improvement.

Kennebunk

Key Returners: Joelle Krause, Carolyn Richardson, Salma Lindblom, Stephanie Sullivan, Grace West, Meg West, Madi Lux

Key Newcomers: Abby Lennon, Caitlyn Wolff, Hannah D’Orso, Sierra Tarte

Coach’s Outlook: The girls team is very young, but also very talented. They should be much improved in the conference this season and have the ability to be contending by the end of the year. A small senior class of excellent leaders looks to help the younger girls make the transition from middle school dominance to high school success.

Massabesic

Key Returners: Emily Wasina, Madison Bantz, Autumn Nostrom, Ashley, Russell, Moriah Biener, Maggie Redman, Leah Ryan, Krystina Hendrix

Coach’s Outlook: We are probably a solid team, though not as deep as we have been in the past … success later in the year will depend on the development of the young kids and the sophomores and juniors looking to qualify for states.

Old Orchard Beach

Coach’s Outlook: The girls are led by Megan Niedzwiecki and Mikayla Grier. Their strength will most likely be in the field events.

Sanford

Last year’s finish: 27th at states

Coach: Steve Walker

Key Returners: Summer Camire, Anna Sang, Nicole Leblanc

Key Newcomers: Bridget Duckworth

Coach’s Outlook: We have big numbers so hopefully the talent goes along with it. Since it’s outdoor we don’t have the advantage of seeing what they can do all year long, but so far so good.

Thornton Academy

Last year’s finish: State Champions

Key Returners: Alex Hart, Sam Curran

Key Newcomers: N/A

Coach’s Outlook: We graduated a few key athletes so I would say this is a transition year. Although we are in transition, I think we will still be very competitive. We have some athletes returning from winter sports as well as younger players that are learning. I’m excited to see that progression.

Wells

Last year’s finish: 11-5 regular season record, ninth in states

Coach’s Outlook: We have some strong returning athletes that look really well in the preseason … we’ll look to improve meet by meet and see who we can qualify for the state meet.
