YARMOUTH — Andrew Smaha is no longer the executive director of the Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce.

Smaha, who was hired eight months ago in August 2015, stepped down after a private meeting Friday, April 15, with the chamber’s board of directors. Smaha on Wednesday said he resigned.

Chamber president Linda Vail on Tuesday wouldn’t discuss the circumstances surrounding Smaha’s departure or whether he resigned or was fired because “personnel matters are considered confidential.” The chamber on Friday, though, posted on Facebook that Smaha had resigned.

Smaha, 38, replaced former long-time Executive Director Carolyn Schuster, who announced her resignation last June. Vail said Schuster will be helping the chamber with executive director duties while directors search for Smaha’s replacement.

“Carolyn is a member of the chamber and a lot of members have offered to help,” Vail said.

Vail said the chamber has not yet advertised for a new executive and that it’s “too early to tell” what the time line will be for the search process. She said she couldn’t say more about the situation.

“The board wishes Andrew the best,” she said. “I can’t comment beyond that.”

Smaha, a Freeport resident, previously worked as a conference director for Smither’s Information in Falmouth.
