I was hoping that Tom Fallon’s letter to the editor of April 17 (” ‘Poetry’ no longer covers work of today’s word artists”) was written tongue in cheek and would generate many letters disputing the last paragraph.

In case the writer really believes what he wrote, I need to say that poetry is both relevant and necessary.

I could forward to Mr. Fallon many examples of poems that reflect current changes, for good or evil, as well as poems that lift us up, needed now more than ever.
