BANGOR — A Maine man faces up to 10 years in prison for driving through and destroying an electronic gate owned by the U.S. Department of Defense.

Thirty-year-old Richard Hughes of Bangor has pleaded guilty to a charge of destroying government property. He also faces a fine of up to $250,000 and up to three years of supervised release.

Prosecutors say Hughes drove his vehicle through the gate at the Naval Support Activity installation in Cutler.

He is due to be sentenced after the completion of an investigation report by the federal probation office.
