Police have arrested a New York man for an attempted bank robbery Saturday at People’s United Bank at 439 U.S. Route 1 in Scarborough.

Brian Beach, 45, of New York state was charged with attempted robbery, operating without a license and operating under the influence.

Police said People’s United called to report the attempted robbery after a man entered the bank about noon, showed a note and then fled. No weapons were shown and police said he ran from the bank after being questioned about the note.

Beach was arrested a half-hour later when Old Orchard Beach police spotted the vehicle.

He is being held at the Cumberland County Jail, where his bail was set at $1,060, jail officials said.
