A Thomaston town employee was injured Tuesday when she was hit by an 18-wheeler truck at Main and Beechwood streets, said the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

Lt. Reginald Walker identified the woman as Louise Demers, 67, of Rockport, an administrative secretary at the town office. She was taken to PenBay Medical Center in Rockport, where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the truck, Leo Pilote, 54, of Loudon, New Hampshire, was turning left onto Main Street from Beechwood Street when he hit Demers, who was in a crosswalk. Pilote was not hurt and police said it appears that he did not see Demers as she crossed in front of him. Pilote has not been charged.

The accident was reported at 12:59 p.m.

Walker said police shut down Main Street for four hours while investigators from the Knox and Lincoln County sheriff’s offices mapped the crash scene. The Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit was called in to assist with the investigation.
